The history of coffee begins in the 15th century in the Horn of Africa, in Ethiopia, where the coffee tree probably originated in the province of Kaffa. Later in Arabia it was known that coffee beans were roasted and ground for the first time in a similar way to how they are prepared today. In the middle of the 17th century it was introduced in Guatemala and later successively in Puerto Rico, Costa Rica, Venezuela, Colombia and Ecuador.
