THE ECUADORIANNATIVE POTATE
Potato production in Ecuador is concentrated in the Ecuadorian Sierra. The provinces of Carchi, Pichincha, Cotopaxi, Tungurahua and Chimborazo are the main producers, which contribute 79%.
The varieties INIAP – Puca Shungo (red pulp), INIAP – Yana Shungo (purple pulp) and the Egg Yolk variety also known as yellow chaucha (yellow pulp) are appreciated in the markets of Europe, Asia and America, for the high value Nutritious, culinary quality and striking colors.
Producing, growing and exporting bananas generates 80.315 jobs nationwide.
Currently around 523.906 tons of native potatoes are produced.
The main export markets are United States, Canada, Denmark, Puerto Rico and Saudi Arabia.
