THE ECUADORIANPASSION FRUIT
In Ecuador the cultivation has been practiced for commercial purposes for 40 years.
Currently two ecotypes or varieties are known “local” and “Colombian”. The latter known as such because it has been introduced in recent years from the neighboring country Colombia and is the ecotype with the highest percentage of dominance in the area destined for cultivation (95%), compared to the “local” passion fruit (5%).
Producing, cultivating and exporting granadilla generates 3.074 jobs nationwide.
Currently around 10.681 tons of passion fruit are produced.
The main export markets are Canada, Hong Kong, United States, France and Singapore.
